Emblem’s Sustainability Practices

Emblem is committed to crafting furniture that is durable and sustainable. We’re proud to be entirely American-made, based right here in California, where we adhere to strict air quality and environmental regulations.

We construct all of our standard and custom products according to our company's sustainability practices, which are aligned with our dedication to creating furniture that is built to last. The longer furniture stays in use, the longer it stays out of landfills. By incorporating responsible material sourcing, low VOC adhesives and finishes, waste reduction, energy efficiency, and sourcing materials locally, Emblem strives to create furniture that is not only environmentally responsible, but that has a long usable life.

Local Materials and Vendors

Emblem sources our materials from local vendors within a 30-mile radius whenever possible, including lumber, steel, foam, and upholstery supplies. Our metal partner is a second-generation, family-owned fabricator in Orange County that completes its own powder-coating in-house. Sourcing materials locally reduces carbon footprint, supports local businesses and families, enhances transparency and traceability, and allows for greater customization and quality control.

Water-Based Adhesives

Emblem utilizes water-based adhesives in its manufacturing processes, which are safer for the environment and have lower volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions compared to traditional solvent-based adhesives.

Low VOC Finishes and Coatings

Emblem applies low VOC finishes to its furniture, reducing the emission of harmful chemicals into the air. Low VOC finishes contribute to better indoor air quality and minimize exposure to toxic chemicals. Our metal furniture is locally powder-coated - a finishing technique long-recognized for being environmentally friendly. We do not use traditional lacquer finishes which have higher VOC content. Instead, we use highly-durable, low-VOC, water-based conversion varnish.

Efficiency and Waste Reduction

All of our furniture is made-to-order, eliminating unnecessary stock and materials. Emblem implements measures to minimize waste in its manufacturing processes, including material optimization, recycling, and repurposing to reduce its environmental impact. Our furniture is custom-built for every order to achieve the highest yields of all raw materials. We source recycled materials whenever possible, including recycled steel springs, recycled polyester fill, and a variety of recycled polyester textiles.

Repair and Refurbishment

Emblem supports you through our furniture’s entire lifecycle. Because we make all of our furniture to order, we are able to provide customized repair and refurbishment support. We offer wholesale rates for the reupholstery of any Emblem design, along with wholesale rates for new bases, legs, arms, or cushions as needed. Let us help you keep your furniture looking its best for years (and years) to come.

Giving Back

We recently partnered with One Tree Planted to plant a tree in our home state for each piece of furniture that we sell. As a company, we are exploring more ways that we can connect and support our employees, community, and the planet.

100 trees planted in California every month!

In 2023, Emblem implemented a new partnership with One Tree Planted. Through this partnership, Emblem plants 100 trees in California every month!

Because we make all of our products here in California, the health of our local forests directly affects the health of our business, our employees, and the planet we all share.

It’s a small step, but we hope you can help us plant a lot more trees as we grow!
